A collection of the Academician’s thoughts and perspectives on various individuals, concepts, groups, etc.

>Tenacious Exemplar of Ascension

Despite himself and I being perhaps the only “normal” members of the assembly, we seem to find ourselves at odds with one another more than any of the others. I am not entirely sure why this is. If I did not know better, I would presume that he intentionally contradicted me at every turn simply to aggravate me and foul up our mission. How ever I suppose that with his role as a preceptor, and my own inclinations towards progress to the point of pushing the limits of traditional boundaries, it is inevitable that we will have conflicts of perspective.
__
But aside from his tenacious attempts to confound and irritate me- fitting as it is for his designated legend- he is clearly a necessary part of the assembly. For a time I was worried that he was too indoctrinated into our previous, limited view of the world to work on Ku’s plan. I still worry that he is too hard on the Despot at times. However, I now realize that he is merely protecting the group, in his own way. He may be a traditionalist, but I suspect it is largely out of compassion for the rest of us that he seeks to minimize our abnormalities, so that we are less in danger of being caught and brought in by those not “in the loop”, so to speak, about the importance of our mission.
__
Still, as much as it pains and frustrates me to do so, I feel that I will have to filter communications with him, to reduce the risk of his judgmental nature jeopardizing important projects, both for myself and others.
__
That said, his zeal itself is commendable. On the rare occasions we find ourselves in agreement, I could scarcely ask myself for a better ally and friend than my golden vat-brother.

>Vivid Tones of the Peoples’ Shield

Shield, Vee, “Vist”, “Sleeping Beauties”, and whatever else he decides to call himself, is truly a fascinating enigma. True, at times we find ourselves at odds as well- but for the most part I have a strong mixture of both respect and curiosity about this fellow.
__
There can be no doubt that he has the strongest connection to humanity in our assembly, both in terms of personality and compassion, as well as that little extra anomaly of his. At times he seems almost reluctant to even acknowledge his existence as a Champion, or indeed anything other than an average human being. Despite my considerable knowledge, I cannot recall another case of a Champion eschewing their status as he occasionally seems to desire. I am puzzled by this mode of thought, and hope that he learns to embrace what the Maker- and by proxy the great vat technicians that assembled us- has given him.
__
But I suppose his oddity should scarcely come as a surprise, considering everything else I’ve encountered. There is, of course, his aforementioned anomaly. I’m still struggling to grasp the concept he represents- a part of his own soul, separate, yet attached; both himself, and yet, somehow, another entity?! I am not accustomed to being at such a loss for explanations, and suffice to say that it both frustrates and excites me. Sadly it most likely comes across mostly as frustration, due to the fact that I do not possess the proper tools for studying this phenomena further.
__
For some time, I had assumed Shield was merely delusional about certain things that he saw, yet remained outside of anyone else’s perception. Now that I know such things are real, it only agitates me to no end that I am unable to even remotely see them without assistance from others. But at least when Shield is in a cooperative mood, he can provide some interesting insight on this subject.
__
I sometimes worry that Shield’s compassion for the populat- commendable as it is- may make him too easy to manipulate, particularly by Tex. However, at least I know that myself, as well as others, will be there to counter such attempts.
